The beginning of the end of NATO?
/Why the NATO saber-rattling and a build-up of military infrastructure in Eastern Europe when; as Bryan MacDonald, a Russian-based journalist says in the linked article: “it’s plainly obvious the biggest threat to Western Europe is Islamic fundamentalism and the fallout from a destabilized Middle East. But the US remains somewhat impervious to these issues, which it largely helped to ferment, and instead continues to be, bizarrely, focused on Russia”.
And in that question from Bryan MacDonald is the answer; ‘impervious’. Apart from the 911 attacks on the World Trade Centre; and the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour, Hawaii on December 7, 1941; the US has never had to endure the sustained and lasting effects of conflict. Happy to stir up a hornet’s nest in someone else’s back yard; then sit back from the comfort of their own while everyone else gets stung.
I quick add up of just WWII causalities from Wikipedia suggest Europe suffered (conservatively) over 43 million fatalities including around 6 million apiece in Germany and Poland and 26 million in (then) USSR. As a percentage of the 1939 population that works out at: German 8%; Poland 17% and the USSR 13%. By contrast the US suffered 405,399 fatalities representing just 0.32% of their population. Even New Zealand’s 11,700 WWII fatalities being 0.72% of the 1939 population were aver twice that of the US.
So to the US; Europe; indeed most of the rest of the world are REALLY up to speed regards the consequences of conflict. So take your Hornet-Stick and F**K-OFF back to your own back yard. Europeans, East and West, are quite capable of sorting themselves out. And if you want to help; DON’T HELP.
